The 3 Q’s of Success is the seventeenth in a series of articles to help you reach your goal. What are your goals? I know you thought about it! You know, it is your dream, wish or resolution you made! Before you can get to where you want to be, you need to know where you are going. You wouldn’t get on a bus, train or plane without knowing where it was going.
I am very curious. I will spend hours watching people do things. I like to ask questions to learn about things, places and people. I think I am pretty good at it! I like to ask questions and I use this to negotiate with people. In some ways I am a reporter, but it is entirely to increase my knowledge of a subject. In most cases, people are very receptive to questions because it indicates you are interested in either what they do or them. Most people respond positively to questions unless the answers are embarrassing or will get you in trouble. You definitely do not want the police or prosecutor to ask you questions.
I prefer quality over quantity! I definitely influenced by my parents when it comes to quality. My Dad was a custom tailor by training, but chose to manufacture high end clothing. It was that training that gave him an appreciation of quality and he passed that on to me. My Mom always bought quality too, but for different reasons. She felt it lasted longer. I think this appreciation for quality permeated many of their decisions and influenced my thinking too. I rather have fewer things but better quality. Quality is not always more expensive, but you must be informed.
I never quit! I remember using that exact phrase in an interview. I used it to illustrate a weakness, but I turned it into a positive. My weakness is I have a hard time letting go. I keep trying when lesser men would give up. I have to work on it because some would say I am wasting my time. In most instances, this would be a positive trait until you realize you may never accomplish the goal. Then I need to go on to the next goal. Do you quit too soon?
Question is either a linguistic expression used to make a request for information or the request itself made by such expression. Some will say you should question everything and others just the things you don’t understand. I use questions to learn more and add to my knowledge. Questions are a great door opener to learn. It tells the recipient that you are interested and open to new things. It is particularly important in a work environment because it tell the employer so much about you. It tell them you are secure enough that you can ask questions, you want to do a good job and you are interested in learning more. What do you think questions say about you?
Quality is a degree of excellence, distinguishing attribute or affirmative or negative character in a logical proposition. It can be product quality or quality of character. Surrounding yourself with people who have qualities that compliment your strengths and weaknesses is important for success. In contrast, buying products that have better quality may mean it will perform better and longer. There are standards in manufacturing that will establish higher quality in the products, but most often we select higher quality if it creates value.
Quit is to stop, cease or discontinue. Never quit! Successful people know when to quit or give up. They know because they won’t waste their time on something. The negative side of quit is to do it too soon. To give up too soon means you never thought you would succeed. Most people encounter obstacles or resistance somewhere in their lives. If you give up too soon, you will never accomplish anything. There are things you should quit such as smoking, bad habits such as spending too much or eating too much. What bad habits should you quit?
This is the seventeenth article in the series about success; I expect to publish throughout 2012. There will be twenty-six (26) of them, one for each letter of the alphabet. The 3 Q’s of success are question, quality and quit. I think everyone wants success in life; business and career; however it takes a concerted effort to reach success. The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man’s determination.” Tommy Lasorda sums it up much better than I can!
I started this series because I run into so many people who have difficulty reaching success. They want to know my secrets! So I thought I would share them in a format that will be most helpful. I also think this format may make it more interesting and easier to use. My goal in these articles to provide useful and interesting information that will help you succeed. The 3 Q’s of Success is now a series.
