Surviving a carpool is no joke especially when you have little children along for the ride. Many vehicles these days come equipped with entertainment systems on board to make keeping young ones occupied a little easier while parents focus on the road. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, and this sounds like a little slice of heaven to you, check out the makes and models of family vehicles with entertainment packages over at Cars.com.
Of course, if you have time for a little creativity, there are plenty of ways to entertain kids in the car that don’t depend on a screen. One of those is to pack a small box of books and magazines and keep them on board in your vehicle for idle moments in the car. Car organizers are also available which allow you to hang slots, the perfect size for books, from the back of your front seats. You can also include coloring books in the organizer or box. If your little one can’t manage a box of colors without spilling them into the nether regions of your car, consider attaching a few shower caddies to the inside of your back windows. These usually attach with suction cups and are the perfect size to safely keep a collection of crayons for coloring.
Snacks are another sure fire way to keep everyone calm and collected in the car. Pak snack bags with nonperishable food items so you always have a supply when you find yourself stuck in the car with the kids. Opt for foods that are easy to clean up and handle like animal crackers, graham crackers or goldfish.
If your children love listening to stories, you might even considering picking up an audio tape to help pass the time while stuck in the carpool line. Any time is what you make of it, and just because the chores are a bore, doesn’t mean the time spent in the car with your kids has to be.
