Friday Night Links Weight Loss Edition is the number one New Year’s Resolution! I should know because it was mine in 1978. It was a long time ago, but I am reminded of it every year because I hear it so often. Weight loss is not limited to New Year’s Resolutions either. As a society, we have a weight problem. Do we eat too much or exercise too little?
What prompted me to make weight loss a New Year’s Resolution was additional weight I gained over the holidays and stress I was experienced at work. The stress led me to the junk food machines and I visited them on a regular basis around mid afternoon. I was hardly skinny at the time, but added 20-25 lbs between junk food and the holidays. Like many people, I made my New Year’s Resolution to lose weight. I approached it as a goal and used all the elements of SMART goals. The first thing I did was cut out the junk food by replacing it with raw vegetables. I made sure I had food to satisfy my cravings, but lower calories and healthier for me. I lost the weight and was so motivated that I went further and lost a total of 35-40 lbs. It took me 10-12 weeks. The best part was it made a significant difference in my self esteem and confidence. In addition I kept it off for all these years.
Whether you are making New Year’s Resolutions to lose weight or something else, treat it seriously by writing it down, adhere to SMART goals and monitor your progress.
