Friday Night Links: Pinched Nerve Final Edition

Friday Night Links: Pinched Nerve Final Edition

February 17, 2012 by Justin

Friday Night Links Pinched Nerve Final Edition is a continuation of my previous post.  For four (4) weeks, I have been suffering with a pinched nerve.  A pinched nerve can cause pain, numbness, tingling or weakness along the path of the pinched nerve.  I experienced all of it!  In my case, I have a narrowing of the spinal canal in my neck thanks to bone spurs.

Today is the second day of taking a (prescribed) anti-inflammatory medication and I am finally almost pain free!  I know that this may be more detail than you will really want to know, but it is my final words on my pinched nerve.  The biggest concern was long term damage to the nerve.  I asked my orthopedist if there were any activity or exercise limitations.  He said no!   Treatment is relieving the pain and allowing the nerve to heal on its own.  Part of the healing process is aerobic activity because it helps maintain circulation which helps heal the nerve.

I learned that I had some of the symptoms before I experienced pain, but ignored it.  You have to pay attention to what your body tells you.  This makes a good segue to today’s picks for Friday Night Links.

Sorry to hear about the pain you must have been experiencing.

About a year ago I developed a bone spur in between two of my fingers. Totally weird. I have been going to acupuncture for two months now…and can happily report the bone spur is all but gone. No lie! And I know it was still there before I went to acupuncture–bone spurs are kind of hard to miss on your body.

It has been a difficult time, I don’t think this bone spur will go away though.

Thanks for including my link. I really appreciate it. (I’m also always astounded at how many blogs you read!) Glad you’re starting to get some relief from the pain. That did not sound fun.

I think this the first time I ever experienced something like this! I think because I am out of warranty. 🙂

Almost pain free, that’s positive news. My sister has also been suffering this week with back pain. Slipped disc .

This is what happens as we get old(er)! I can’t wait to get back to normal.

I am having a CT scan on my neck on Tuesday. I am hoping for a pinched nerve and not the scary neck spikes of death. Either way, the pain has got to go. I still have two more months of busy season to get through!

My MRI was worse than anything because I could not lay flat. A CT scan is much shorter which is the good news. To say, I feel your pain is too easy. I am finally almost free of pain, thanks to the prescribed medication. Longer term, I am consulting with a neurosurgeon for further evaluation.

This is the first time, I did not just bounce back quickly. I guess it is a sign of age.

A very long time ago, I took a speed reading class. My best was 2,000words a minute with 80% comprehension. I no longer read that fast, but I do read pretty fast. I learn a lot by reading all these posts and other things on the internet. I usually get 7-8 hours sleep as an average.
I am feeling so much better and glad this is behind me.

I am so glad that you are feeling better. Health issues can take a toll on our daily activities. I have had sleep issues with this pregnancy and it has had an effect on my daily activities.

Thanks! Although I was in pain, I managed to find a comfortable position to sleep. Now, I am okay during the day, but wake up in pain. I must do something in my sleep to create pain.
I remember my wife sleeping with a pillow to make herself comfortable when she was pregnant.
