Spring Break is vacation time for families. Some of you will be traveling to far off places like Disneyland, Disney World, ski areas or just a warm spot in the sun. Now is the time to think about summer vacation! It is literally just around the corner. It may not seem that way with the recent cold snap, but you need to start planning. Are you staying home, taking a short vacation or planning something big?
Planning a family vacation is not easy because you have to find some place fun and interesting for your children. If you are like most of us, the vacation has to be reasonable or you just cannot go. The first thing to do is establish your budget! Start with how much money you can and want to spend before you do any research. Remember going into debt is not a choice! You should have saved for this vacation all year.
The Internet is a great resource for information, bargains or planning your vacation. What experiences do you want to enjoy with your children? Some people enjoy camping, or using a Recreational Vehicle (RV), going to amusement parks, sports, active vacations, restful vacations or educational vacations. Some of these experiences are inexpensive, free or reasonable. It is your choice!
Create your own vacation and backpack in the mountains in the summer, bicycle touring the state, or travel to a National Park. Your only limitation is your creativity and your budget. Maybe your budget does not include airfare, and hotel rooms. There are lots of things in every state that you can do inexpensively. There are free days at the museums, day trips to the amusement, going to a professional ball game, or just spending time as a family. Organized day trips can be a lot of fun and include the family in the planning.
There are inexpensive overnight trips if you go camping. There are state parks and campgrounds near the beach or some point of interest. You do not need a camper or RV to enjoy camping. Being together as a family or camping with another family can be a lot of fun. Campfires are meant for great stories and family vacations! You do not have to drive hundreds of miles to find a great place to go camping. You can borrow or rent some tents, bring food and have a great time.
Airline tickets and hotel stays need not cost an arm and a leg! Maybe you accumulated airline miles and or other loyalty rewards you can use for vacation. It is not free, but a lot less than paying for the tickets. Airlines and hotels offer specials, if you have some flexibility in your schedule and destinations. Check out some of your ideas on Kayak.com, Priceline.com or Orbitz.com.
All-inclusive packages or locations are worth checking out. There are Air and hotel vacation packages, all inclusive resorts in a variety of locations that can be attractive depending on your budget. Many of these packages are more attractive in the off season if you are flexible. Traveling to Hawaii is more reasonable in the summer than the winter.
These are just some of the ideas for a family vacation. You can develop your own idea of a vacation with your friends, significant other, or relatives. You can vacation by yourself; take a cruise or an affordable tour. You are only limited by your imagination and budget! Whatever you choose, make sure it is an enjoyable experience for the family. Don’t forget the pictures to remember the experience. What is your plan? Will you take a vacation this year? Are you planning a stay at home vacation?
