New Year’s Resolutions are a commitment, an individual makes to a project or reforming a habit. It is not a set of goals, but a commitment to the goals. Normally, I never made New Year’s Resolutions. Why wait for a particular day to set goals. Now that I have a better understanding of New Year’s Resolutions, I will update you on my 2012 New Year’s Resolutions.
For six (6) months, my Page Rank was reduced to zero and it had a huge impact on my earnings. In addition, I had a pinched nerve which was brought on because of degenerative discs. I was in severe pain for nearly four (4) months and surgery was looking as the only solution to stop the pain. The good news is the pain stopped and surgery is delayed. It still had a material effect on my performance. I am not trying to make excuses, but that did occur. In the fourth quarter, I realized changes needed to be made to turn things around. The changes are starting to get some positive results.
Volunteering – I wanted to start volunteering and planned to start with a couple hours week. I found an opportunity to volunteer for four to five hours a month. By now, I have been volunteering for five months and thoroughly enjoy it. I reached out to the Boys and Girls Clubs that have a program at my school and suggested some career workshops. I expect to add time over the next five years to have something worthwhile in retirement.
Earn more income from my blog – I wanted to earn or average $2,000 per month income from my blog, but Google had different plans. My Page Rank went to zero in March and blocked me for six months. It had a devastating effect on my income. Believe it or not, I learned a lot from the experience. I learned that I focused on the wrong things and I needed to change. Last month I started focusing on my writing and relationships and it is starting to pay off. Not financially, but the trend is encouraging. Over the year, I watched my Alexa ranking go from 88K to 270K! Definitely going in the wrong direction! In the last month, I started going in the right direction and my ranking is now is about 240K and going down.
Top 100 Personal Finance Blogs – My goal was to be part of the Top 100 Personal Finance Blogs. My goal is probably a stretch, but I always go for the impossible. I did not make the top 100, but for a short while, I made the top 200. I will continue to strive toward this goal, but it is no longer one of my top goals. Along with more income, I decided my focus should be on my writing and relationships and the rest will happen eventually.
Although I suffered a few setbacks, I am optimistic that I will not remain down. I will continue to make changes and monitor my progress. I am still a work in progress and will try different things until I achieve my goals. I hope you keep reading my articles and you let me know what you think in your comments. This is my update for 2012 New Year’s Resolutions and I will post my 2013 New Year’s Resolutions next week.
