My 2013 New Year’s Resolutions are mixed, some progress and challenges just three (3) months into the new year! I decided this year to embody the real meaning of resolutions. Although I am pleased with some of my accomplishments, I have to compare it to the same period of last year. I improved significantly from the end of 2012, but track close to the first quarter of 2012.
I made some changes in December (2012) and it has helped my statistics. My Alexa Ranking improved significantly and I have more visitors on a monthly basis. I also noticed that some of my articles have resonated with more readers. I am writing longer articles and I decided to publish on Tuesday and Thursday versus Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Do I believe these changes are lifting my numbers? I don’t know! When you are faced with a problem you can either give up or make changes. I chose to make changes. I plan to monitor my progress closer and adjust more often. Progress is never a straight line.
My 2013 New Year’s Resolutions:
Volunteering – I am already volunteering and will continue. I am committed to volunteering and I wan to build on what I started. I am motivated because it is fulfilling and I feel valued. I want to increase my commitment to this (feeding homeless) organization and add other organizations. So far, I made no changes in my volunteering.
Blogging – I have been blogging for over two years and I am still evolving. I learned what works and what doesn’t! I have changed my writing, when I publish and hopefully the quality of my writing. I tackled subjects that are controversial such as The case against paying off your mortgage and Stop the budget insanity! There is more to come in April too! Stay tuned for some really Big Ideas!
Time Off – Normally, this probably is not a resolution for most people. I am one of those people who never takes time off. In twelve (12) years, I have only taken two or three days off. As a teacher, I do not feel I need much time off. I have more holidays and vacation time than I ever had before. I only work four and a half hours a day. Compared to my former profession, I am semi-retired! I used to work three times that or fifty-to sixty hours a week. Normally, my wife and I take nice vacations overseas every other yea or visit relatives in New York. This year, we went away to the beach for a weekend and I am committed to do this a couple times a year. I wanted to go away at the beginning of Spring Break, but it was inconvenient and the following weekend is no better. Hopefully, I can schedule something this Spring.
What’s left? – I am still working on some of my former goals, but approaching them differently. My new teaching assignment has challenged me as well. This is probably the year of change. I think it is a good thing because it keeps me sharp. This is important as I get old(er)! By now, I wanted my Page Rank to increase along with a lower ranking on the Wisebread Top 100 Blogs. I did manage to improve, but I have a ways to go. I will continue to report on it as the year goes by.
These is my 2013 New Year’s Resolutions Update! I did not give up on old resolutions and I will include any progress on those when appropriate. Failure only occurs when you actually give up. My 2013 New Year’s Resolutions are my new beginning and so far so good!
