Happy New Year!  Today is the beginning of a new year and a day full of football games.  Living in Los Angeles, I look forward to the Rose Parade showing what is best about southern California.  If you don’t know, it is the weather!  The beaches, skiing, museums, theater, sports, parks and food are pretty good too.  It is hardly perfect, but it is home!

The holidays are over and children will be going back to school soon.  College football bowl games have started, although the Rose Bowl which is the granddaddy of them is today.  Los Angeles Clippers may go all the way and the Los Angeles Lakers are starting to win, but are still working on their game.  We are just about a month from the Super Bowl.  I like this time of year!  I am on vacation and there are a lot of sports to watch.  I have been busy with house guests and my daughter visiting.   Shopping, parties and the (2012) year are over!  Next week, I go back to work and I am actually looking forward to it.  It is one of the perks of doing what you enjoy.  Speaking of things to do……..  This is also the time of year that people organize their taxes and get ready for new year.  My tax planning starts with a spreadsheet so I can just drop in the numbers as my W-2, 1099s and other tax information arrive.  I also clean out my files and start new files.  I am really looking forward to this year.

Whether you are getting paperwork ready to file your taxes, watching a lot of sports, putting together your New Year’s resolutions or enjoying time with your family, I wish you all a happy and healthy new year.   Happy New Year!

I definitely need to work on that taxes thing. Totally need to make an estimated tax payment!

Krantcents January 1, 2013 at 1:07 pm

It all depends when you want to file. You have until the 15th to make your estimated payment.

It’s definitely a great time of year. I love when football overlaps with basketball. I think December/January is 2nd to March (because of March Madness). Best of luck to your teams and Happy New Year-

Thanks, Happy New Year to you too. This time of year provides so many choices in sports. If I get tired of football, I can watch basketball.

Happy New Year to you as well. Every year is a gift, and I’m looking forward to this one!

Thanks, 2013 has to be better than 2012. Between the Google slap and getting a new teaching assignment very little seemed controllable. I know 2013 will be better!

Who do you think will win the Rose Bowl this year!?

Krantcents January 1, 2013 at 1:14 pm

Of course I am rooting for Stanford (as a California transplant)!

The holidays and new year’s for me was spent with family and was a good time for a break. It’s all back to business now. Happy new year!

I am still enjoying the holidays because I don’t go back to work until to the 7th! It is one of the perks of teaching, perhaps the only one.

The bowl games have become much less important to me over the last couple of years as there are way too many for my taste and it definitely waters down the meaning. The Clips look really good, although their win streak did come to an end but that’s just a tiny bump in the road for them. Here’s to a great upcoming year!

Krantcents January 2, 2013 at 7:34 am

I am somewhat selective which bowl games I watch. I have like at least one of the teams. In some cases, one of my former students may be playing which was true for Oregon State. I can always watch a basketball game or two. Happy New Year to you too.

We use the “taxes basket.” Whenever a W2 or 1099 comes in, it automatically goes in there so it’s all together when I sit down for that glorious day of cursing and tax prep….

Krantcents January 2, 2013 at 12:56 pm

No basket, but I clip it together after I enter it on my spreadsheet.

So far so good, Stanford won the Rose Bowl! I think 2-13 will be good too.
