This is my half year goals update, since I made my 2012 New Year Resolutions. This is where I update you on how I am doing regarding my goals for 2012. I will give you a detailed progress report. I hate excuses because too many people use them to explain why they do not achieve their goals. So I will just explain what happened and leave it to you to decide.
Near the end of January, I sustained a pinched nerve. After visiting the orthopedist, I learned that I have degenerating disks in my neck. I had severe pain from this and supposed to have surgery this summer. Miracles happen because the nerves healed and the pain stopped two (2) months ago. I am on the mend, but not out of the woods. Next, Google decimates my Page Rank. That was my second knock down, but I am not out. So I am still standing, but a little dazed.
My 2012 New Year’s Resolutions are the following:
Volunteering – I want to volunteer two (2) hours a week. I am starting volunteering once a month in July. If everything goes well, I will add more time.
Earn more income from my blog – I would like to average at least $2,000 per month net. January started out pretty well, February was less and March was just about zero. Thanks to Google, my goal missed by a lot. The second quarter was just about zero. I am working hard to rebuild my Page Rank and restore the income.
Top 100 Personal Finance Blogs – I want to be part of the Top 100 Personal Finance Blogs. Thanks to my Page Rank issue, this is purely a wish. I applied for reconsideration with Google. So far, no news.
Although I suffered a few setbacks, I am optimistic that I will not remain down. Fortunately, I found some of the best articles of the week. This makes a good segue to today’s picks for Friday Night Links.
The following articles caught my attention:
Dining Out Challenge - Tips To Find The Best Healthy Restaurants
My University Money - Auditing A Class
Prairie Eco Thrifter - Why You Should Live Green
The Frugal Toad - Saving a Little Money With Your Home Appliances
Life And My Finances - The Number One Reason For Wealth Today
The selection of blogs is up to the committee of one established by krantcents as a representative of the Academy of Frugal Journalistic Writers. That committee can be influenced by meaningful comments, signing up for my RSS feeds, backlinks, links, trackbacks, Facebook Likes, Twitter, Re-tweets, Digg, StumbleUpon, delicio, Yahoo Buzz, Google Bookmarks and other social media. If you plan on creating a single purpose political action committee (PAC) to buy advertising on my blog to solely influence the committee, please go ahead! Please understand it will not influence the results.
I read more than five hundred (500) articles a week and I highlight just five (5) in my Friday Night Links. Goals delayed, but not forgotten! Thanks for reading Friday Night Links New Year Resolutions Update Edition.

Thanks for the mention! I truly believe that wealth can be achieved by paying attention to just that one principle. If you focus on the one, all of the others will just fall into place.
Don’t worry about the goals. I have no doubt that you’ll bounce back!
You’re welcome, everyone looks at wealth differently. Thanks for the encouragement on the goals.
Thanks for the inclusion this week. It is always an honour on your site.
For income, maybe try linking up with Crystal’s advertising service. She knows a lot of contacts that could really get the money coming in potentially. It would be worth a try.
I am with Crystal’s service. My zero Page Rank is affecting my income too.
I can’t remember a post where you’ve talked about where you’ll volunteer. What are you considering? It’s great that you’re feeling healthy enough to start. I know this has been a goal for awhile. Got to feel good!
I decided to just jump in! My wife volunteers once a month (Sunday Morning) putting food together for a homeless shelter. I will rely on my restaurant experience for skills. I am also contacting the Boys/Girls club to teach/coach kids on personal finance. I think I just need to try things to find what I like.
Sorry to hear about Google but that is awesome that your nerves healed on its own. Hopefully things turn up with your blog income soon.
My neurosurgeon is monitoring me monthly. The strange thing about nerves, once they are damaged, they can not regenerate.
Glad to hear you’re feeling better KC! Giving back to the community is not only rewarding it can make a huge difference to those in need.
Thanks, I just wan to get started, hopefully in July.
Generating income from new endeavours like blogging can be challenging. My income also dropped off after the beginning of the year. I suspect this is mainly due to my reduced effort due to other commitments, but I have no doubt that the advertising market was squeezed with the Google changes.
Thanks for visiting Bike Lane Living. We always appreciate your comments and interaction. Plan that European vacation!
My European trip is postponed to next year. My neurosurgeon won’t let me travel. I attribute the Google changes and the resulting Page Rank change (zero) for the decrease. I am changing my strategy to work on (many) multiple tasks as a new start to reach my goals.
Google banned my adsense and dropped my pagerank a notch. Just keep moving forward
I know I am not alone, but it still sucks! I keep on working to rebuild what I lost. I think I am used to adversity!
